What happens after I submit my leave request?

You'll get an eligibility packet by mail or email. Read everything in it carefully. The packet explains:Whether you're eligible for any federal, state or company leave policiesYour responsibilities during the leave processWhich documents you need to send backBeing eligible does not mean your leave is approved.

You may have a few options:Paid time off: You may be able to use your available PTO while you're out.State benefits: In certain states, you may be able to get paid benefits from the state. The "Checklist" section of your eligibility packet explains how to apply.Short-term disability: If you're out continuously for your own serious health condition, you may qualify for short-term disability. It replaces part of your pay while you're away.If your leave is unpaid, make arrangements so your health care benefit deductions are still covered while you're away.

What documents do I need to provide?

It depends on why you're taking leave:Your own or a family member's serious health condition: Give the health care provider certification forms to the provider and talk with them about your leave needs.Other reasons: You may need documents such as military orders or adoption placement papers. Your eligibility packet lists exactly what's needed.Send your documents back right away. Forms that are incomplete, missing or late are the most common reason leave decisions get delayed or denied.

Alight will contact you before your leave ends to ask if you need more time. If you have leave time remaining, you may need to provide more documents to extend it.If Alight doesn't hear from you, they'll assume you're returning to work as planned and will close your leave request.
